problem shutting down windows 2k
Last night, after installing several software applications on my pc, I ran into a problem shutting down windows 2000. When I go to shut down, the computer runs through it's normal routine, saving files, backing up, etc., and then proceeds to restart instead of shutting off. Before last night, when I went to shut down, the computer would completely power off. Now, it just stalls for a second and restarts. Anybody have any ideas?

No ideas. I have the same problem with Win2k Pro SP1 on an Asus P5A w/ K6-2/500 latest BIOS 1007.a supposedly ACPI? It was shutting down fine last night and today just restarts.I'm going to try SP2 today.

Try changing your "Power Settings" in BIOS to "User Define"

Thanks Matt, I checked and it's set to 'Use Define' I loaded setup defaults after the BIOS flash.

Are any of you running ZoneAlarm? If so update to the new version 2.6.88. See if that solves the problem.
