I've tried everything I can think of to get this CD player to play music CDs. It works fine with data. I've tried a different CDROM in the machine with the same error. I've even installed a different CD Player program but I still get the "Data or no disc" message.
I'm having almost the same problem. I have an IBM Aptiva with a Hitachi gd 2500 DVD-ROM. Keep getting a "No valid drive/Disk found" error when trying to play dvd's. Music cds and cd-roms run just fine. Any suggestions?

I don't know if it will work with the DVD but I finally ended up downloading Powertoys that has a bunch of utilities for Windows 95, one of which is an updated version of the music CD player. That fixed my problem, hopefully it fixes yours.
