Help!! After Installing PlexWriter, Neither CD Drive is Recognized.........
I bought a Plextor 12x10x32 and installed it on my machine. I set it to Master on the same IDE Controller as the CD-ROM (which was set to slave). On first boot up, everything was working great, plug and play detected the drive and installed the needed drivers. Then I went to installing the software that came with the Plextor, Adaptec programs, and it said to reboot. After rebooting, neither drive showed up under "My Computer", and under the Device Manager they (drives) both had exclamation points. Under properties, it told me my registry may be corrupted.
I've tried everything I know to do. I've uninstalled the adaptec software (after trying to find an update from adaptec), I've checked the cables, even tried to go back to the original configuration. Still, won't show either drive.
If anyone has an idea of what I need to do to fix this, I'd really really REALLY appreciate their help.
Oh, I'm running Win 2000 Professional, anything else I need to list?
ooooooooh, please please help!!!!

In device manager, go to the controller the drives are on and check the properties for the controller the drives are on (probably Secondary) and specifically, the advanced settings. Under transfer mode, switch the setting from DMA to PIO or vice-versa depending on what is already set. Both Plextors and Yamahas prefer the DMA option on my system.

In the device manager, there are no resources shown. I can't access an advanced menu, and they are both set to DMA, I didn't change my Samsung cd-rom settings, but Plextor manual says to set it to DMA so I did that.

Yoy can try this from M$'s kb. It might help, one other thing you might do is try to install the backup registry..
