Try updating the drivers for the sound card & install the latest versions of any audio codecs.

Does this happen in all MP3 apps or just , say Media Player?

We just had this problem at work. You need to install the latest chipset drivers from Intel's site.

    Get Hardware info 32..
    http://www.hwinfo.com

if your board uses the ADI AC97 controller (like the intel..) you can use these drivers:

    who said you're dumb ?

other suggestions I can think of are Disabling ACPI (in the BIOS)
Installing Serive Pack 2 (if you haven't already)

    try this:

Well that this mystery is solved, I can finally get this off my chest.....

Q: My music plays too fast. What can I do?

    A: Listen slower. (rim shot)

Sorry all, in a strange mood what with monitoring all the doings here this weekend....

Zleaper: I'm absolutely thrilled you solved your problem so I could get that stupid joke out of my head.
