    acer aspire 3004 burned ic

Anyone know where might be able to get a surface mount ic for an aspire 3004 main board? Board has a surface mount ic that fried, I was able to identify it from another 3004 I got on ebay but I would like to fix the first one if possible. Anybody here repair boards down to component level?

Thanks Noonoo. I would buy a mainboard if I could find one at a decent price. I found one for $395, I thought that was pricey.

    The key factors will be:

Can you obtain the replacement IC?

Can you successfully remove the damaged one and fit the new one?

Can you establish if the chip simply failed of its own accord, or are you content to use substitution to prove and just bin it if the new IC also burns up?

At that price ask the owner if s/he has insurance... it's often cheaper and gets them a nice new laptop.

I'd certainly be inclined to write off the machine as a lost cause. I just don't see any way the repair is likely to be cost effective.
