Angry Presario notebook CardBus drivers in Win2k

I have a Compaq Presario 1200-XL104 notebook which was originally shipped with Windows 98.

I recently installed Windows 2000 on it, and whenever I insert a PC card, and I have tried many different ones (I am trying to install a network card), it tries to install a driver called PCMCIA-MTD0002. I have looked all over not only this site but on the entire Internet and have found nothing about that driver.

I checked back with my Windows 98 configuration and saw that "Generic CardBus Driver" was installed in the 98 configuration but not in the 2000 configuration. I have assumed this to be the problem.

However, when I go into Windows 2000 to install the driver from the .inf file, I simply will not see that driver listed. Exactly HOW can I install it?

In device manager do your card slot device show up? If so then you need to use update driver under the properties of the device and make sure that you have the driver for windows 2000.

    Cool

Hi , i have read your problem and have the solutions for this !!
I have the same laptop and had the same problem, do the following:

Go to BIOS and search for built in device, then do:

    Onboard sound ( Enable)
    Soundblaster (Disable)

press F10 and confirm, dont worry your sound ssystem still work but the soundblaster comp (that cause the problem) is disabled.

Normally the problem must be solved , if still not try to update the sound driver to VIA PCI Sound Device insteat of PCI Sound Device in WIN2K.

I hope this will resolve your problem

    Bye

    Active8. You are the man.
I just got a laptop in with the same problem and fixed it thanks to windrivers and this thread.

    Cheers.

Have you tried reading the manual?
    What does this button do?

Active8, thank you very much! I thought at first that you were one of those wackos who thought I was having problems with my SOUND card even though I said PC Card slot, but I tried it anyway and it worked. Thanks so much!

Where did you find that out from?
