[RESOLVED] compaq 1275 w/ bsd

hey all well working on a laptop for a client having probles gett the bluse screen of death when it starts up no matter if in safe or normal mode changed memory and installed windows 98se on it still nothing any other sugestions???

Hi,

I would try removing all non-essential cards such as modems, sound cards, NIC's, etc. Also, check output voltages of your power supply. Reboot and see what happens.

well don its a laptop nothing installed in the pcmcia slot its right when it loads in to windows it geives me the blue screen of death w/ a location on most likely a hdd location since i changed memory on it and still get the same error no mater if i go in to safe mode of in to normal took battery out unhoked power and rest the defaults in bios and still get the same thing

the error says

safe mode

normal mode

by the way error comes b4 i can get in to windows see the mouse but it won't move then bsd

I don't really have a very suitable solution to your problem, but I also have a Compaq 1275 which I'm not using anymore. I upgraded the system to Windows 2000...you may want to consider doing that once you get rid of your problem.

As for your problem, I'd simply recommend re-installing another Windows OS alongside it (like ME, or preferably 2000).

Have you already tried re-installing Windows 98 from the install CD? I called the idiots at Com-crap myself and I asked them to send me a W98SE CD free of charge...but your warranty has probably expired. If not try this before installing another OS.

If you don't even want to do that, just try using Mode 4 at the start-up screen (Step-By-Step confirmation) and don't initialize any drivers except the necessary ones.

And by the way, when you are confirming choices, DO NOT press Y when asked about anything in c:\hibernat\ cuz you have to hit Y or N to like 300 other choices..I learned the hard way :-(
