Is it really dead or just switched to external output? The display can be switched to LCD, external monitor, and both. I've had clients accidently turn off the LCD and not know how to turn it back on. I don't remember the correct procedure to do this check your owner's manual or contact Toshiba.

Bad FL-inverter. open the casing around the screen (all plastic snaps after the 2 screws are removed). you will see a little PCB at the bottem right. disconnect the wires running to the lcd and hook up a voltmeter to it. if it reads any less than 2000-3000v, its bad and needs to be replaced.

Yes first thing i checked was the FN F5 sequence usually solves the users problem sound like this FL Inverter, my tester doesnt go up that far so would be a bit kamikaze to try gonna get a better tester and test it out.... any idea how much one costs (rough price) and any parts dealers in uk ???????????? Do they just have a short life or is this the most common problems these screens have !

The FL inverter lists for about $55 CDN.
    Toshiba part #P000201740 (CDN).
These are the most common causes of no display.
here is the uk support page
