FYI:
My current and continuing cost:
Laptop <$400
128 MB Ram <$50
Hard Drive (20G) - $120
CPU - $40
DVD - $75
Decoder - $100
TFT - <$100
When I am done I will have a P2-400, 160MB, 20gb, DVD Player with a 12/13" Display for about $850 - umm, a little high - but who cares - I am on a quest!

I've got a Compaq 1275 with a messed up screen...I'd love to know where I can get a 12.1" screen for only $100?!?! CPU for only $40? I think I'm missing something..if not then I'll be upgrading mine too!!
HD sounds reasonable, I just bought a 20 gig laptop drive for $122 (for the same Compaq), but the other prices are waay low? Where do you get your stuff from?? Please tell me!

It's all about ebay - laptop pieces and parts are real cheap.

Pfft..of all things, i didn't think of eBay. I found a nice screen that looks like it would fit, however it's about $400 and it isn't worth the money (someone is probably selling a complete model that is similar for $400). If I can find a nice screen for $200 maybe I'll consider it. I don't know how you got a screen for $100 though...

I have not pulled the screen, have not determined if this part can even be done, however I believe I have a doner screen. I would like to get a bezel from a new toshiba laptop, so I could use a larger than 12.1" screen.

AMD CPUs in laptops are usually the same as the desktop variants...this is the case with Compaq, Sony, PICO, and Toshiba (and CTX too ).
Standard 2 to 2.4 v units, I just upgraded my K6-2 400 to K6-3+ 550 in a Presario 1690, they run at 2.0v.
Check out my webpages for details.
