    Post Docking Base Network Problems

After updating the BIOS to resolve a problem I had with the laptop rebooting itself when Docked, I have hit another problem. The Netflex network adapter doesn't want tot work when the laptop is docked. It installes fine and appears as though it is working, or at least should be, but upon booting the machine I don't even get the Novell login screen. If I plug it into the network via the Xircom network/modem adapter it runs fine. There is one other strange thing though, after it was booted in the docking base, it detected some new hardware that it couldn't locate the driver for and so installed it under unknown devices. It installed the gameport and netflex drivers fine, but I have no idea what this unknown device is, and if it is causing me these other problems?

    Question

Did you also update all the drivers from Compaq site?

I downloaded the latest Netflex-3 drivers from Compaq, but can't seem to install them? I extract the file into 2 disks, and then point to the inf file on the first disk. I get a list of all the devices, but when I select the Netflex-3 one and try to install the driver, I get a message telling me the location specified doesn't contain any driver information? Any ideas

What I usually do is extract all the files to one directory on the hard drive & then install the device pointing to this directory. Try it & it should work! <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0">

When installing drivers, I follow the same method, I never extract them to actual floppies, just corresponding folder names on the local drive. If I point to disk 1, I get a list of all the network adapters, and the Integrated Netflex3/P is one of them. i select it and then choose ok, but get the message "The specified location does not contain any information about your hardware". I am concerned about what the unknown device is that Windows isnt able to install (It even searches the Windows on-line update for drivers but isnt able to locate any). If I remove both the Unknown device and the Network adapter, both are re-detected at startup, and Windows 98 automatically detects the netflex adapter and install drivers. Any ideas, this is driving me nuts. It says its working and installed fine, but It just doesn't work?
