Nec Versa 4000C and IBM HD
OK you all, a little challenge.
I have a working Nec Versa 4000C with a 1.44g hd salvage from a old Compaq. No prob.
I jst got a Wroking IBM drive fom a 350
perfectly working, formatted in fat 32.
Drive is a DYK A-23240 3240MB.
It is automatically seen and recognized by
the Versa bios.
ALL I GET IS A READ FAIL DRIVE 0
message.
Note that this drive works perfectly in an IBM $tinkpad, but not in the Versa nor in my Inspiron 5000.
Q: IS IBM doing something special with drives installed in their PC so they will not be compatibles with others ?
s. A little frustrated

I don't believe so, I'm using an IBM notebook drive in here that didn't come with my Sony and it works just fine...but maybe it is just that model.
Try a 3rd laptop if you can. Or, the most obvious solution, call or email IBM and ask them! Hey, nothing wrong with that!

some of the older laptops will not work with larger hard drives.i think your 4000c came from the factory with less than a 1 gig hdd.you might check with nec website and see whats the largest hdd you can use.
