Post ASUS P3B-F Slot one Motherboard

This is a two part question, please bear with me.
    1) this mobo is currently using a PIII 550 Katmai CPU. I try to upgrade to a 750 Coppermine 100MHZ FSB CPU. Mobo can configure to accept the CPU but the system keeps crashing. It has BIOS revison 1.004. ASUS website has both revision 1.005 and 1.006 posted. Updating the BIOS should fix the problem (I hope). I just want to check to see if anyone has any other recommendations. ASUS BIOS are soldered onto the board so I can't afford any mishaps.

    2) I also try using an ATI Rage Fury Pro AGP video card eith this mobo. I can;t boot up with it. It was using a Diamond Stealth 540 Xtreme with no problem. Everytime I switch, computer refuse to boot. Just black screen. Before I switch, I set the display drive to Standard PCI VGA. Does anyone know what is the problem?

    Thanks for your help!

    Start with upgrading the BIOS.

You should be able to backup the old BIOS when flashing it to the new one.

    Then start again...
Would you like fries with that?

Go with the 06 BIOS version...
P3B-F can't utilize the coppermine unless it has 05 or higher.

    Good luck!!

    Cool

I aggree with both posts so far

Flash the bios - get the flash from the asus site
After flashing my mb I was able to use a PIII 733 coppermine cpu with this mb (p3b-f) I had to under clock it to a 533 (while I was waiting to get my newer mb) but that worked fine with both a TnT2 and Voodoo banshee

HI everyone, thanks for the responses.

I flashed the BIOS with version 1.006 and the system still crashes with fatal exception errors with the 750 MHz coppermine CPU. I tried the same CPU on 2 other boards and it worked fine. ASUS website mentioned reinstalling the OS. I haven't try that. I am thinking of reformating the hard drive and start from scatch. Will this help?

Also, I still can't get the motherboard to accept the Rage Fury Pro card.

    Anyone has any ideas?

    Thanks for your help!
