Question Internet Dial-In always shows ISP-page every logon

    My system

    - ISDN Router
    - home-LAN attached to router with NAT
    - Win98
    - IE5.5

    My problem:
I recently changed my ISP (but it's only a call-by-call provider) and every time the router reconnects (after 2min idle time) IExplore always shows the startup page of the provider - even when I write something here in the forum and push the SEND button it doesn't send, it just goes to the ISP-Homepage...

It's just only the first page after the reconnect... the startpage of IE is BLANK... and with another ISP it works (but they cost more per minute)...

I know there can be some RADIUS entries to force someone to see a page... perhaps it's done in another way...
Does anybody knows a way to circumvent this behaviour??

    Thanks

Well, make sure you aren't an automatic script in IE, by going to Tools, internet options, connections, lan settings and making sure there are no boxes checked. Of course, you may have to have proxy set to use their service, and they may have it set up to force you through the proxy even if it's unchecked. But the only way they can force you to see a certain page is through automatic configuration script, setup on the above page, or through browser branding.

Browser branding is very common recently. Most ISP's provide you with an installation disk, that "sets up" your network connection for you. Actually, about all this disk does is put their name all over your computer. Oh yeah, and it makes sure DHCP is enabled. If this is what's happened, unless you have a spare copy of Internet Explorer Administration Kit handy, download a fresh copy of IE from microsoft. Depending on how deeply the branding has gone into your registry, and how adept your ISP's programmers are, you may even have to reinstall, due to the high integration of IE and the core of windows OS. If reinstalling IE doesn't work, you aren't going through a proxy, then your last chance before a reinstall would be to get a "stay-alive" program. This is a program that will generate random net traffic at specified intervals, so that you don't get disconnected in the first place. I couldn't get from your post whether the router reconnects every two minutes if you're in the middle of downloading, but this wouldn't really work too well, so it seems like you would have to reconnect after two minutes of inactivity, in which case a stay-alive program might do the trick. Otherwise, reinstall, take the CD that your ISP gave you and throw it in the trash, and download IE from Microsoft. You should be fixed up. Hope this helps! Good Luck!

Browser branding is a good idea... but as I'm networking specialist I just use the phonenumbers and ip-settings they offer at their HP - I'd NEVER do any automated install of a service!

The LAN settings in IE are all checked off... I'll have to check that ISP-proxy thing (as I surely don't use it now) but I remember to have seen nothing like that on their info-page
