    Post Wake on LAN

I'm running Win98 (not SE) on an Abit KT7A motherboard with a NetGear FA312 NIC and I'm trying to get wake on LAN (WOL) to work.

I've enabled WOL in the BIOS and I've downloaded the Magic Packet utility and put it on one of the other computers on the network.

For the IP broadcast address I leave the setting atat 255.255.255.255 and for the MAC address I put in the adapter address as obtained from winipcfg but nothing happens.

I've read something about having to change some setting so that the NIC always has its light on, even when the computer has shut down, but I don't know what settings to change.

    Can anyone help?

    Cheers, Tim

I know this is a lame question but do you have the cable from the nic pluged into the board becuase that is what should make it hot and show power if its configured in the bios. X

Yes, the card is plugged into the motherboard. I checked the connections again but no dice.

Have you checked the manual for the NIC and the manufacturers website?

Unfortunately the "manual" is a folded piece of A3 telling you that you need to put the NIC in a PCI slot. Unfortunately any further information was deemed unecessary by the Netgear team.

Their website is equally useless. Lots of pretty pictures but no content.
