Can someone give me the definition of a second level hub?

    Many Thanks

I've never heard the term, second level hub before, but it sounds to me like they are referring to a bridge. The second level refers to the Data Link layer of the OSI model. The layer handles many things among which is MAC address handling. This second level hub could be nothing more than a bridge, which is designed to either segment a large network or bind together two different networks.

A second layer hub would be a bridge or switch.

A second level hub could be just a hub to which you connect your bottom layer hubs....
Although it's better to use a switch for this.

Could this be refering to a hub that is used to feed other hubs? So it would look like this:

    router
    |
    2nd level hub
    |
    other hubs

I would rather use a switch in this case to feed the hubs.

Hubs are source for collisons and bandwidth sharing...

I would use managed Switches instead.

network traffic will be faster, no collisions easy management...

Thanks Guys. Question has been answered.

A Second Level Hub is one which is not connected directly to the physical network cabling but at the "second level" via a switch.

    Cheers
