I'm trying to connect a win 95 and win 98 computer.
They both find themselves, and both have been in a network before.
The I heardf that it is not possible toi have 95 and 98 in a network.
    Is that true.

No. 95 and 98 cohabitate just fine. What protocols and services have you loaded?

I have W98, W95 and even Windows for Workgroups 3.11 all working together just fine.

    A few tips:

only load the protocols you need, usually TCP/IP and IPX/SPX (for legacy gaming)

if you have no local DHCP server, (i.e. a form of ICS provided by W98SE,2000, or a DSL/Cable router device) you need to set all your worktations with a IP address, usually 192.168.0.x with the subnet being 255.255.255.0

for file/printer sharing, you need the Microsoft client installed in the network control panel, and click on the file/printer sharing button.

Be patient with Win 9x on a peer-to-peer network. It might take a few (dozen) reboots of both machines but eventually all machines will recognize each other and shared folders. Make sure that you do not have unnecessary protocols installed (i.e. NetBEUI). Only use IPX/SPX if you are running older games or connecting to a Novell 3.x or 4.x server.

Ipx ,Tcp\ip and the share files\printers in microsoft network.

Check your network Identification and make sure both machines are set for the same Workgroup.

Check the workgroup, set IPX to use the 802.3 frame type, make sure they are using NetBIOS over Ip or IPX - NetBios allows for browsing functions, make sure that they are using the correct IP address and subnet.

you say you given the IP address ?

    What IP?
    what Subnet mask ?

try to ping the ip of each ..

are you using hub or switch ?

if not you must use a crossed network cable (not a regular one).

Try to configure your cards manually to 10Mbit Half Duplex.

make sure that one is a master borwser and the other isn't.
