    remote control

    Hi,

Here is my problem: I need to connect to the office which has 3 desktop computers connected to a Linksys WRT54G (FW v3.03.3) wireless router from where ever I am via the internet to remote control atleast one computer. All computers run win xp pro w/ all updates.

I can access the webpage for the router settings and make changes if nessecary. For some reason I cannot access any computer.
I can use VNC or the build in WINXP remote control or whatever you think is better.
Can someone tell me what I need to do to make this work...I am so frustrated with this that I probably forgot the most obvious.

    Thanks

    Q

One more thing: the computers get their IP with DHCP from the router

I have in the "port range forward" section of the router setup:

for vnc: ports 5800 to 5900, both protocols and the IP addy of the PC I want to control

for PC anywhere: 5190 to 5191
for remote desktop: 3389 to 3389

    But still nothing...

Then make sure you are using the correct IP.
Make sure that remote desktop/vnc/pcanywhere is installed and working.
Make sure that the XP firewall is turned off.

Try connecting from one PC on the lan to another, just to verify that the service is setup correctly

I can connect from one PC to the other behind the firewall with remote desktop. I can also do a remote control session from those PC's to a gateway located somewhere else. The windows firewall is OFF and there are no 3rd party firewalls. All PCs run McAfee virusscan pro 9.0. Just don't seem to be able to get in.
I am using the correct IP since I can connect to the router settings with it.

I meant the IP of the PC, not the router..

you want to forward the 192.168.x.x IP of the pc running the services to the router.

in the router forward settings I have the IP (192.168.1.x) of the PC I want to reach. I should change the PCs to static IP but even then it shouldn't matter since I should be able to reach any of those PCs, right?
I am not at the location where the PCs are and the people there are not capable of messing with it.

No.. if you plan on remoting, set them STATIC!!!. with DHCP the IP can change, then you won't know wich they are. a port forward goes to 1 specific computer on your lan.. not all of them.

What i would do is go to the lan then use a site like www.grc.com to do a remote prob, making sure the ports are open.
