OK I need some input. A relation has a Dell desktop that will get connected to a Unix server with W2K. He wants to put another nic in to connect to a Mux type setup with a modem. They've done it with a single nic in a seperate desktop. What they want to do is put both nics in the Dell, but neither nic can communicate with each other at anytime. They're putting a Cisco switch on the network soon. Would programing the port to only accept packets for that specific IP work or will the other nic still be able to pass back and forth. You may need more info and I'll pass what I can.

Forgive me if you find this silly, but don't you need some routing software to route the packets between the two NIC's?

No I don't thinks it's silly to ask I think it is because I didn't put it in. I believe they will be using TCP/IP for protocols, but I'm not sure what software they will be using to communicate with the MUX. I know it makes it difficult with out more.

hmmm, the software is in win2k ! you can install rip and forward packets if you need to .

now if they both arn't working at the same time they might be using the same irq. just a thought you might want to look into
