    Browsing the network using windows 2000 is too slow !!! any idea why ?

    Could be a ton of things... Are you using WINS or DNS for name resolution? I believe that win2000 will look towards DNS resolution before anything else.

    what speed is your network? Is it switched or a hub? You might want to look into what clients are being used besides Win2k. If you have a mix of 95/98/ME/2k, etc machines it will run slower. I have seen no problems with browsing the network with Win2k. One more thing...If you are using NetBEUI and/or IPX along with TCP/IP you should shut them off, unless needed.

    protocol..

    browse masters ?

    number of computers ?

    all win2k ? or NT4

    or there are win9x clients...

    Is this when viewing drives that are on a win9x machine?? Because i have a problem with that too. When viewing drivees on another win2k machine, the network is fine, its just a huge lag showing drives in network neighbourhood for win9x...

    I've had this problem as well. When viewing the share list of a Win9x client it takes about a minute to list everything. However when accessing other Win2k clients there is no lag. Guess they use slightly different methods...

    However if you enter the full path to the share you want to view (\\computer\mp3\) then you will not have to sit through the stupid lag.
