Post Sharing dialup

I will be the first to say that I am very inexperienced in the field of networking, its just something that I never really got into.

My problem is that I want to share a dial-up connection between 2 pcs. Currently I have the 2 pcs networked with CAT5 and a switch the 2 can see each other and share files. Now I want them to be able to use the same dialup connection.

I made the windows home networking disk and it doesnt seem to set it up correctly.

Server pc is WINXP and the client machine is winme.

Could someone walk me step by step through getting this setup. I have been to numerous networking sites with no luck (www.practicallynetworked.com etc.)

    Thanks in advance

You might want to look at This Program it's called proxy from Analog X and with it you can set other computers to acces the internet thru the PC that you install it on.

Download it and install it and READ THE README FILE then you're good to go. Last I remember the program is free, and can log internet access too.

    Hope that helps ya.

Thanks, I was trying to use spoon proxy but the documentation was near nothing! Also, thanks for the link, have used analog x stuff before and was very impressed. If anyone else wants to go into more details, feel free, I like to learn

Actually, with XP its quite easy, go to Network Connections (inside my network places) and find your dialup adapter, rt clik on it choose properties then the advanced tab at the right, you will see internet connection sharing, check the box, and you should be done. You may need to reboot the client machine to grab an iP from the server......

One note on this,You can`t use ICS if you have set individual IP addresses for the machines as the system has to control this automatically.

I would still use ICS, since it uses NAT. Then use Internet Remote Control from http://www.bysoft.com/iremote.html to connect/disconnect the server computer from the client computer or computers.

If you have a few bucks to spend: WinProxy will do what want and more. It is easy to install, and pretty much straight forward with ICS.
