Post Where can I buy premade 100' CAT 5 Crossover cables?

Are they just made up from bulk cable or are they available over the counter somewhere?

    Thanks for your help.

Both, the premade cables tend to be more expensive if you need a lot of cables. If all you need is one cable, then go out and buy it. I don't know if you can get 100' premade though, might be hard to find.

If you are constantly needing cables, get a huge spool of CAT5, some RJ45 jacks, and a crimping tool, and learn how to make your own. You can make any length you need and you'll save a bundle. There is a detailed guide to the wiring setup on this page: StarTech

Your best prices would be on Ebay. Local shops and online shops will be kinda spendy. Some Local shops may also make cables by request. Pre-made cables are expensive. A 50 footer I saw was $25, so expect to pay around $50 maybe even more!

You can get a spool of 1000 feet of CAT5 at Radio Shack http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...Fid=910%2D4883

Datacom wharehouse sells 100' premade cables from various manufacturers and in many colors. The price ranges from $30 for their brand non-booted to $50 for a Belden CAT6 cable (270Mbps digital video certified)

100 foot x-over? I don't think you'll find a premade one, but most places can make you one.

If you're looking to do just 2 systems, buy a cheap 4 port hub. You'll find that the transfers will be faster.

I dont agree. Connecting my laptop to the server via the hub is way slower than connecting it direct via a crossover cable

Waldo, just buy 100' of cable, a couple of RJ45 plugs and see if someone will lend you a crimper (if noone owns one, buy one, their noit expensive and can be very useful), the cable is easy to make. Ill provide a pinout diagram below...

    CROSSOVER PINOUT:
    Orange/White---Green/White
    Orange---------Green
    Green/White----Orange/White
    Blue-----------Blue
    Blue/White-----Blue/White
    Green----------Orange
    Brown/White----Brown/White
    Brown----------Brown

    Hope that info was helpful.
