    Question Slow Network Access w/ Dell Latitude laptop

    DELL Latitude w/docking station running WIN95 configured with Novell Client 32 and MS Client for Microsoft Networks; Madge Smart 16/4 PCI Ringnode TR Adapter;

    Login script running 4-5 minutes. Desktop with "same" configuration runs about two minutes.

    First off what is this loggin script taking so long for 2 minutes is unthinkable. Anyway What are the specs on the laptop compared to the Desktop? Are you loggin in with same user? What version of novell is it loggin into ? X

    I have to agree with you on the 2 minute login script - Connecting to a server across the WAN - Also verifying AntiVirus versions.... Anyway, the laptop is right out of the box PIII 500MHz 128 MB Ram, the desktop is a Pentium w/ 32 MB Ram. Side by side logging in as the same user the desktop completes the login in half the time. The Novell server is 4.11

    Try turning unselecting "run scripts" from the Intranetware client. See if that helps. Check the switch and make sure you are connecting at 16mbs. confirm that all your settings are correct for the token ring adapter. If the laptops have the docking station, try installing a standard pci madge tr card.
