Angry Can't receive/send email on cable sharing PC

I have cable modem which is Internet sharing with another PC in house. The 2nd machine receives Internet fine, but can't send or receive email. Running Win98SE and using Outlook Express. Is there a setting I've missed? Before we went onto cable 4 weeks ago everything was fine. What is the likely problem?

How are you actually sharing the internet connection? Cable modem with 2 PC's hooked up to a hub? One computer running ICS for the other computer? Cable modem to gateway router to your network? Whats the exact setup since there are so many different ways of sharing a connection. Firewall? Other than adding a cable modem has anything else changed on your network?

Next, all you said about the one computer is it could not recieve or send e-mail but could browse the net. Is there anything else it can/cannot do on the internet? Instant Messaging?Gaming?IRC?FTP? What I am wondering is if you have a firewall or firewall software setup that by default only allows port 80 through and must be configured to allow other ports through it.

PC1: Connected to cablemodem,Win98SE, Zonealarm, NO hub or router,
PC2:connected to PC1 via crossover cable with 3Com network card in each machine, Win98SE,
Before cable connected 4 weeks ago both machines worked perfect for over 1 year.
Now internet access on both but send & recwive email only on PC1. When I try to send/receive on PC2, I am told server not found? IRC, games, all network access between machines OK, just email seems to be problem? I hope this enough info???

How are the mail settings on PC 2?
My provider instructs you to use just pop-server and smtp-server as the respective server addresses. This works fine for the PC directly connected, but once you subnet with a router or ICS, you will need to put the full address in for the pop and smtp servers so it knows where to go. For example, I have a router, so all machines on my home network have to be set to look for pop-server.tampabay.rr.com, and so forth and so on. Try that. Hope this helps. <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">
