Post SMC SMC7004BR Cable/DSL Router w/4 Port Switch

Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this router for use with a home based lan. Amazon.com has a pretty good deal on it.... after coupon, and mail in rebate it goes for $39.99.

Any Likes or dislikes for a home based lan?

Sounds like a good price for a switch to me. Dont think you could go too far wrong with it <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

I just got the 8 port variety and it's pretty rockin'. I was a little afraid that I'd have more applications needing port mappings than the router config interface allowed, but no worries. Just be sure you upgrade the firmware on it when you get the switch. My setup:

    3 internal computers.

    Wan
    |
    Cable Modem
    |
    SMC Router
    / | \
    Machine 1 Hub Machine 2
    |
    Machine 3

I have the switch going to the hub because I didn't have a cable long enough to stretch to the 3rd pc on it's own. The hub is ancient and it made it easier to reach the 3rd PC when I only had 15 foot patch cables.

I also have the network running fully static (not DHCP) because I have internal servers running ports through the router.
