I know this software is BETA but I set Visnetic up the other night and man is it easy!!!! Once they have a full version you might want to look into it. I even got webmail working on the first try! <a href="http://www.deerfield.com/beta/visnetic_mailserver/" target="_blank">Here's the link</a>

I'm also looking for a new e-mail server platform to run on 2K/NT. I'm currently running Exchange 2000 but it's an administrative nightmare. I'm looking for something that has many of the same functions but is simple to setup and use. Exchange is a bit bloated for what I need. I will be supporting about 15 users, and would like the option of having shared calenders, and other options that exchange has. Are there any alternatives that won't break my wallet?

Download and try the Lotus Notes R6 beta. Its free to download the beta software, but obviously the server product isnt exactly cheap.

It is 'different' to administering Exchange, with a lot of options, but, from my experiance, it is a much nicer package over-all.

There is sendmail for NT/2k but in my opinion isnt that great. Can be a bit costly and is not as robust dollar for dollar. I tend to head towards IMail for a commercial mail server under win32. MDaemon is the cheaper of the bunch. All have trials available. Hope this gives you some insight on whats out there.

Unlike MS Exchange, with GroupWise you pay by the user. There is no separate charge for the client and server software.

Heh, wondered how long it would be until someone mentioned Novell <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

Arent they in some financial trouble lately?.. I havent worked with anything from Novell in almost 18 months, and essentially the first time I laid my hands on it, I was expected to rebuild a server, so being in at the deep end was pretty daunting, but I was impressed with what I saw.

I've been running Exchange 2000 for about a year and a half and I have no (serious) complaints. It's not really for a small company though. SBS might be... if they make SBS (small business server) anymore.

You might want to look for an ASP to provide you with email. ASPs can afford to roll out a big exchange org and sell to small groups. Or, they may have their own proprietary email/calender system.
