    Post Equality/Discrimination

    So, what if there was:

Muscles for Men instead of Curves for Women?

National Advancement of Caucasion People instead of National Advancement of Colored People?

United Caucasion College Fund instead of the United Negro College Fund?

White Entertainment Network instead of the Blace Entertainment Network?

ME, Men's television network instead of WE, Women's television network?

Certainly we are in a White and/or Male dominated society(even though there are less men than women), but does that mean that it is less important for our equality through "special" white or male only groups than it is for other non-white or non-male groups? What makes it wrong for these groups to exist in light of their counterparts existance?

    I agree with you.

I don't mean to sound racist, but todays society is bending over for monorities.

We have "affirmitive action". Giving lesser qualified minorities positions etc.. to others who are more qualified.

You can't be negative to someone because of their recial / ethnicity / national background, but its OK to be positive.

We had it coming, and its going to be a long time before it goes away.

There already is white equivalent to BET, it's called CBS. or if you prefer, ABC, NBC or CMT. or HGTV, or BBC America.

We think its all reverse-discriminatory, and kind of funny to joke about this, but some groups of people actually need to form some sort of organization in order to be treated decently, or to even have the same legal rights as those of us born white with a penis.

Not to long ago, even white women were not allowed to vote- until they organized...

The channels you listed are not specificly targeting the white demographic. There are not listed as White Entertainment. They are targeting the national demographic. My point was that it would be considered racist or sexist to have a national channel on television that specifically targeted either Caucasians or Men. There might be the odd Male specific television program, but it is alway tongue-in-cheek. Look at Berman and Berman. This show is for woman and sex/relationships. Can you imagine a serious show on the same subject for men?

Ok, I'll concede on the CMT. But who watches that anyway?

Choose your sexist topic and this channel will show it sooner or later. Point: a show on strippers? Really now!

Perhaps then I should narrow down my field of inquiry to the States. I don't have much reference for Canadian television.

Good point. I also have a problem with equal oppurtunity employers. I say the best man gets the job. I've known people who were told they couldn't be hired because they had to hire a black person, regardless of who had more skills.
I'm all for equality, but true equality is what I mean. Being turned down because you are white is not true equality.

My only rant is how we must step lightly and treat everyone with respect and blah, blah, blah; yet it is "in" or hip or acceptable to portray men in a bad light. We are considered mindless oafs, sexdriven fiends, worthless without the help of a woman, etc...
My only problem is that I just don't care, like most men. We don't get up in arms cause most of us realize that it is rather childish to do so.

Within all groups, the most vocal ones are the ones portrayed on TV. So, in a nutshell, if men are getting a bad rap for being "mindless sex fiends" (I personally don't totally agree with this label), then perhaps the role models chosen to portray the male gender, should be re-thought. If all society sees are "mindless oafs, sexdriven fiends, worthless without the help of a woman", then its society that needs to be corrected.
How many guys here liked Andrew Dice Clay when he was popular? Let's just say, he did nothing for men in general. On the same note, people such as Pamela Anderson do nothing for the way society views women.
I personally know only a couple of men who fit into the "mindless" category, but lots who fit into the "caring, smart" bracket.
We can't take everything said, by every little mind, as gospel. All we can do is our best, and hope that the world (at least the little bit that surrounds us personally) takes notice, and doesn't lump us into one category.
