There should be a webpage posted about these cliques that I've been hearing about so much lately.
Like this (the following names are obviously an example):

Windrivers.Cliques
Cool people who are in the clique:
1) Joe
2) Mary
3) Jim
4) Bob

People who aren't in the clique and aren't cool because of it:
1) Jane
2) Mike
3) Dave
4) Bill

This way at least everyone can keep track of who's in and who's not, and who's cool and who's not on a daily basis.

As far as I see everyone has been saying good things about the mods, and I have stated a few times my respect. However, I do think that something has changed... and there is OBVIOUS favoritsm by the mods. I am not saying they shouldn't have friends, but it's like when I was made a supervisor in a factory years ago, a lot of my friends still worked under me, and they remained my friends, on breaks or at lunch or after work...during work I had to work very hard to show equal friendliness to ALL the people under me. Favoritsm totally messes up any community of many people, and also damages the respectability of the boss, facilitator or moderator. (before someone screams THIS ISN'T A PAYING JOB - maybe not but it is still a job with responsibities to ALL members. If you take the job you take the responsibilties seriously, and I think they do). And that is my only say about mods, maybe the mods should cut down on obvious favoritsm, it would help general population moral a lot. Other than that I think they do an fantastic job. And people who are defensive here keep honing in on when a particular person causes trouble they will defend, like I am saying thats wrong..but like I said before, that is not the issue I bring up really, it was the WAY it is done lately, not why it was done. It's easy to pick one point and shake it like a bulldog, ignoring the main point. Its funny when someone said "tho dost protest too much" later on that is exactly what I thought after some of the first replies, but I didn't say it. And I don't agree that we can't change because of what some say is "human nature" or fact of life, if that was true nothing would change in the world ever, everyone would just do what ever they wanted because it was their nature. It's human nature and a fact of life to go to the bathroom, but we don't just do it where ever we are, on the floor, in the middle of a crowd or something, do we? (?? I hope not anyway!!) It's like some of the people I used to work with -their answer to any proposed change no matter how great or productive was "No we can't because we have ALWAYS done it this way". I always hated that answer. I, like many others here (maybe many are afraid to speak because of retaliation or wanting to hang onto the good graces of the IN club)just would like to see things change just a little so EVERYONE can be happy here. There is always SOME of this in any group but it has gotten way worse around here in recent times. And there were always small groups of friends here who knew each other better than the rest, but they didn't flaunt it or gang up on people. And since everyone is admitting there is a clique, it is not my imagination that there is a problem. I have said my piece (like 5 times), and I will stay awhile to see if any changes come..... I guess it depends who has stronger influence in the long run, the clique or the rest of us....
well, anyway I love this place and a majority of the membersare great, I just hate to see it slipping...
oh, and liquor stores are closed here on Sunday too, have to drive over the state line to New York if you want it, wasn't that many years ago ALL stores were closed on Sunday (the Blue Law).

Jeanne,
I agree with what you say, but I don't think there are cliques around here. I understand what made you think like that. There are some people (members and moderators) who sometimes keep talking to each other. I wouldn't say they belong to a clique as most of them never refuse to help other members "unknown" to them. This is not a clique! People belong to a clique, only when they hang with specific individuals and almost never talk to anyone else. This is mostly about the Mods since I stand for them right now. If there's a clique among the members, I personally can't do anything to change that and I wouldn't say anyone else can. There are members who like to post anything else but their help. Since there are forums which are not made for technical stuff and help, I believe they have all the rights not to help. But please understand what I'm trying to say. There are no cliques and there is no favouritism. The Mods treat everyone the same! I posted some facts about the Mods yesterday to show you how hard our job is. Even when someone doesn't have the time to deal with "bad" posts, he notifies the rest of us to do this job for him. And we have lots of posts of this kind every day.
The Mods (and I'm not talking about myself) are proven to be efficient, hard working and helpful.
I don't refuse that I have some friends here (although most of them are Mods). I treat everyone the same. Even though there are some users who make me sick, I have never shown it to them.

If anyone still thinks different about a Moderator or still thinks that Mods' job is crappy, please post your thoughts here.

6DöG9's 10 basic steps to Windrivers success:
1) Register on Windrivers
2) Post topics and replies
3) Earn your stars and avatars
4) Get to know people
5) Listen and learn
6) Go chat it you want to and get to know more people.
7) Earn more stars and become more respected
8) Build a good reputation along the way by offering sound advice in the technical forums
9) Don't post topics about useless information, slandering remarks, or anything with a negative overtone. Because the topic will either die quickly, or make you the enemy.
10) Try to have fun while you're here!

This topic is exactly what I was talking about !!!

sure, now it's only in the lounge (WHICH IS A GOOD THING) but still...

can't you put all the little wars behind you ?

this is getting out of hand over and over again.

This is the worng place to fight each other.

Stop flaming one another. monkey if you have a problem with some one - Tough ! as well as all you other guys and girls.

if you don't like someone - live with it !!!

this is not the place to release your daily agression.

as for "cliques" - if people here like to have groups of friends - it's their buisiness only !!!

why can't you people mind your own things.

why is it that everytime that anyone talks about omething like this the "entire" tech community is replying and the topic reaches 5-10 pages ... but on the techincal forums there are only a handful of replies from a few people...

you should really be ashamed for sinking to those levels..

After thought: By the way AlienDyne, I think you are mistaking what was said about mod being a crap job, he was just responding sarcastically to the people who's excuse for any problems the mods have being acceptable because they don't get paid. He meant Free does NOT equal crap job. If you read back he said and I am sure you agree, that even if its a free job you (generic YOU not you-you) still take your responsibilities seriously or you wouldn't (or shouldn't) be doing it. Just trying to clear that up before he gets crucified for nothing. Also, if there is no clique, how come pretty much everyone here on either position admits there is? And even if the mods can't control member cliques, I have seen many times now a bunch of abusive responses (really abusive) by a bunch of always the same people to some member with a mod responding right below them...while the mods do not do the abusing, they also do not seem to tell the others to back off or do anything about their comments so it looks like they condone this behavior. >>end after thought

You know, I give up (and thats what you guys want) I was impressed at first that differing views could be expressed in this post rationally and civilly at first, but read the last couple pages, some will do anything to make an viewpoint of another look wrong or stupid. I appreciate the ones who responded, even if opposingly, but understanding I have some legitimate complaints and who know someone else also has a right to express views in a civilized manner..Well, I stand by my opinion... and Why are some of you saying it like I started a flame post or caused bad feelings in the forums... Yeah, kill the messenger.
Geez I was trying to bring out in the open what is already there so maybe it could be resolved. Obviuosly to some who are afraid that would affect them, this is a threat. Why do some feel so personally threatened they have to make fun of me?
I think I will leave here for awhile, come back some other long time later, probably most of you won't be here anyway, I've seen many come and go ... unless of course you have destroyed this place by then..
I guess maybe you should add to the windrivers rules:

1> Don't try to have your own opinion unless everybody likes it.
2>if you do have your own opinion and express it (also known as being "stupid" I guess)"it will get noticed" = expect that some members will be able to express their different views in a civil manner, but that the most vocal and obnoxious always win.
3>if you don't like someones view you can ridicule them and badger them and make it seem their view is worthless until they give up (after all its just human nature).
4>if you want to be high in the ranks and better than everyone else (This does not apply to the legitmate techs and mods, but you know who you are) asap post hundreds of posts that help no one, after all its the numbers that matter.
5> It's ok to swear at other members as long as you put @@@ or ### or $$$ in so no one knows what letters you are really using . This is especially handy when disciplining anyone you don't like what they say.
6> Never try to understand an opposing position, there should be no opposing position. Never discuss it intelligently and agree maybe they have even the smallest point. Thats a loss of power. You might lose a star.
7> new members will henceforth be known as outsiders so they know their proper place in the community.

I am sad to say goodbye to some and to the knowledge gained here, but not to some of you immature people. I hope Scott reads this whole topic and realizes there really is a problem, its not just me trying to blow something out of proportion. There are quite a few "regulars" who could use an attitude adjustment.

No Jeanne. I'm not the one who is mistaking, I'm not the one who belongs to a clique and I'm definitely not the one who said you're flaming!

Don't take it personally, but if someone feels nobody cares about his posts because there are more intresting things to do with the clique, have the guts and say the names! Who belongs to a clique, Jeanne??
Posting your own "rules" and leaving these forums is not a solution! Jeanne, you may have been registered before me, but I keep visiting these forums 4-5 hours per day for the last 2 years.

Everyone comments the Mods and their job. I understand that cause I can be in your shoes. Why don't you try to be in our shoes and think what you would do and then place your comments on a topic such this??

I'm afraid, I can't change your mind and persuade you not to leave, but one thing is for sure. The forums will be here next time you log on!

I won't post any further comments for now, because it'll be the first time I'll start flaming on these forums!

I'm sorry. I just got back from a vacation from the forums. Jeanne, I highly disagree with the above statement. I have broken up so many flame wars, I'm the one who gets flamed now! When I see a flamewar starting, I close the topic, with remarks noting "This is a flame war and they are not permitted", or something close to that. I think you actually are trying to fit everyone into a category for a few. There are over 25000 registered members on these forums. You can't be everyone's friend.

I also read another remark about you claiming "favortism" by the mods/chatops. I do feel that some of this goes on, but I, personally, try to be as fair as possible. I have edited other moderators posts, right along side other members.

Another thought: You could contact the moderator/chatop directly if you had a question as to why they did something. We're all pretty open.

That's all I have for now.

Yep, you've never been anything but fair with me or anyone else that I can see, Q.

I consider you to be a friend, and you've edited my more controversial posts and kicked me from the chat room for getting rowdy just the same as you would anyone else.
