I think it's cuz I don't drink on Sundays (liquor store's closed). I'm a very nice person when I don't drink.

I don't know, Jimmr. It's a mystery to me. But the cops get really mad if you try to "unlock" the door yourself when the liquor store is closed.

I TOLD them that I was gonna leave money on the counter!

I honestly don't know, Jimmr. I think it's a throwback to some old law in my county Liquor stores couldn't be open on Sundays. Hell, until about 20 years ago, Shenandoah County was totally dry. Convenience stores can still sell beer on Sundays. But it's no fun to get stone cold drunk off beer.

Nah, won't work Mustang. Any liquor in my house on a Saturday is gonna end up consumed by 2AM Sunday. By me or someone else.

So you hide it, I hide things on myself all the time when I am drunk and I can never find them when I am sober, you know car keys, work access card, money, credit cards, bodies, the normal stuff.

I don't know if the following have been posted earlier, but I'm too busy to read all 4 pages right now.

Facts about Moderators (in case you're missing some):

1. We are just users who have extra rights (not admonistrative ones) upon the BBS.
2. Scott trusted us to make the forums run better. And since he's too busy to deal with every 'bad' topic, we do that for him.
3. We love these forums as much as you do. That's why we're trying our best to make them run the right way.
4. We don't get paid for what we do! Besides that, we always do our best and most of us spend lots of hours on line per day. The only thing we earn is see Windrivers getting improved.
5. The users who mostly get flamed are the Mods. As you might have already noticed, we keep no heart-feelings.
6. I admit that most of us (Mods) have an ignore list, but nobody gets ignored if he had a bad attitude once or twice. You must admit that some of you, REALLY cross the line more than once or twice.
7. Hit the Back button on your explorer and go to the Forums Main Page. How many registered members do you see?? About 26.000 as we speak. How many Moderators are available??
Mods are so few and you are many, aren't you?
It's a very difficult job and you must also admit that!
8. Even though that we always try to help, be reasonable and polite. In spite of the fact we have to deal with all kinds of users, we NEVER cross the line! We understand the way you think, but please understand our too.

a couple of points, but please dont take offence! this is meant to be constructive!

1) why does the fact that "no pay" means "crap job"? i dont get paid, but answer questions fully - i do it because a) i learn something new by the research i do for the answer, and b) i enjoy helping people. money for me is not everything and if i dont get any, so be it.

b) 26,000 to 10-odd mods... why not get more mods and spread the load. not all those with 1,000 posts are suitable, but 99% are.. so promote a few!

c) i am sure you're not one of those people but i recall the expression about "standing the heat in the kitchen!".... hey the job is voluntary and is fraught with l(users) who have so-called grievences to take out on someone - and hey, it just so happens MODs are the target..thats a fact of life!

Please re-consider, Mr Myagi, that's not fair to AlienDyne or the other mods. You mightn't have meant it that way but it sounds like you think AlienDyne is presenting an excuse for them to do a poor job. They don't, of course, and Alien Dyne wants to make sure posters properly understand the status and function of moderators.

The thing that stands out most to me in AlienDyne's post is that mods get the most flaming, and hence need to be level-headed, not vulnerable & not take things to heart. If all the WinDrivers users, 1000+ posters included, answered to this description, we wouldn't need mods, and wouldn't be having this discussion.

As far as I see everyone has been saying good things about the mods, and I have stated a few times my respect. However, I do think that something has changed... and there is OBVIOUS favoritsm by the mods. I am not saying they shouldn't have friends, but it's like when I was made a supervisor in a factory years ago, a lot of my friends still worked under me, and they remained my friends, on breaks or at lunch or after work...during work I had to work very hard to show equal friendliness to ALL the people under me. Favoritsm totally messes up any community of many people, and also damages the respectability of the boss, facilitator or moderator. (before someone screams THIS ISN'T A PAYING JOB - maybe not but it is still a job with responsibities to ALL members. If you take the job you take the responsibilties seriously, and I think they do). And that is my only say about mods, maybe the mods should cut down on obvious favoritsm, it would help general population moral a lot. Other than that I think they do an fantastic job. And people who are defensive here keep honing in on when a particular person causes trouble they will defend, like I am saying thats wrong..but like I said before, that is not the issue I bring up really, it was the WAY it is done lately, not why it was done. It's easy to pick one point and shake it like a bulldog, ignoring the main point. Its funny when someone said "tho dost protest too much" later on that is exactly what I thought after some of the first replies, but I didn't say it. And I don't agree that we can't change because of what some say is "human nature" or fact of life, if that was true nothing would change in the world ever, everyone would just do what ever they wanted because it was their nature. It's human nature and a fact of life to go to the bathroom, but we don't just do it where ever we are, on the floor, in the middle of a crowd or something, do we? (?? I hope not anyway!!) It's like some of the people I used to work with -their answer to any proposed change no matter how great or productive was "No we can't because we have ALWAYS done it this way". I always hated that answer. I, like many others here (maybe many are afraid to speak because of retaliation or wanting to hang onto the good graces of the IN club)just would like to see things change just a little so EVERYONE can be happy here. There is always SOME of this in any group but it has gotten way worse around here in recent times. And there were always small groups of friends here who knew each other better than the rest, but they didn't flaunt it or gang up on people. And since everyone is admitting there is a clique, it is not my imagination that there is a problem. I have said my piece (like 5 times), and I will stay awhile to see if any changes come..... I guess it depends who has stronger influence in the long run, the clique or the rest of us....
well, anyway I love this place and a majority of the membersare great, I just hate to see it slipping...
oh, and liquor stores are closed here on Sunday too, have to drive over the state line to New York if you want it, wasn't that many years ago ALL stores were closed on Sunday (the Blue Law).
