Jeanne, would I be right in thinking your last post was directed at me? If so, I appreciate the compliment.

Could you also tell me whether you got my private message I sent via the forum pm system?

Thanks

Since we all like flaming people who are small tech posters .. i have one comment to make .. im now the highest poster with he least tech things ... but ohh wait ... what about all the good things i helped make here for ALL people .. well besides that

I for one have spent a great amount of time bringing people from newbie to old user closer togther ... so that EVERYONE is a part of things .. if favortism is seen i like to know where .. im part of this "moutain" status .. i worked hard to get here .. if i just wasted my time all day long doing bad posts .. then why is it after 1 1/2 yrs its taking me to get over 1400 .. when others do it in a couple months .. im taking this personal cause my friends are being attacked as well as myself for being friends .. I will stand up with Darren to Q to Cobra to others, any day of the week .. they are friends and they are people i would hang out with in real life. I have seen it all spending 10+ hours aday here i know whats going on .. ive had more then my share od disagrements but being its 50-50 im bad to .. but when people that are my friends are being "pested" for being friends ... you wont have my support .. if you are mad cause you were labeled .. it was your own doing not ours .. we didnt make you a label .. you did!!

I for one say if being friends to people is a "clique", then im a apart of it .. cause we are WINDRIVERS.FRIENDS

what label did I make for myself may I ask? And why so upset? Why did you create that topic if not to prove you thought my opinion worthless? I have no bone to pick with you, except that post. Where exactly did I say anything about you, except that? I admire the things you have done. What friend did I pester, exactly? When did I attack someone for being friends, what I attacked was the rude, obnoxious way a certain group of always the same people (I guess I could call them a collective or something, no one likes clique)responds to people? If thats not you or any of your friends then what's the problem? Do you guys actually read all of what I write or just throw out an angry response no matter what I say? Cuz everytime some of you respond to what I say I DON'T mean, not to the actual problem of how people are being treated. Why the defensive, over-reaction. I am supposed to like being made fun of and ridiculed?
All I said was I do not think the posts for tech lounge should count because they do not prove technical skill. I didn't say anyone did not have technical skill, but in a system where the numbers\rank is how the members will judge your knowledge and technical skill, having a couple thousand posts mostly in tech lounge should not equal being a high level tech. There are exceptions to everything and I am sure if that were the rule, it could be adjusted by the mods\admin for someone who deserved it, I am sure they can promote (or recommend promotion) whoever they want but generally people are not doing what you are.

Yes Noo-Noo, it was to you & also I sent you a short email that day, you didn't get it? I appreciated your comments and explaining things for me.

I know I said I wouldn't touch this subject any more, but JvaGuy's exactly right. What's with everyone suddenly jumping on those of us with high post counts who post mostly on the lounge?

I USED to be a retail mom and pop shop technician. I now work as a network engineer for an ISP. And all of our servers are running Red Hat Linux 6.1 or later. I don't deal with the day to day Windows bugs and glitches anymore. Being out of the loop, I don't keep up with new hardware, except what I read about that interests me in Tom's hardware guide.

There are only a handful of things I feel safe trying to help with on the tech forums -Nvidia graphics chipsets, Windows 2000, VIA chipset-based motherboards, SB Live cards, and the Abit KT7-RAID. So when I see a question about one of those things, I offer my input and help where I can. BUT - and this is a major but - if the question's already been answered, then there's no point in me offering a response. If Condor or Darren have already answered the question adequately, and the original poster has solved the problem, is there any point in me chiming in with my opinion? I don't think so.

What I'm saying is that some people are worrying too much about other's post counts and where they're posting, and it's obvious that it's starting to create a problem. Some people take these "titles", such as Advanced Tech, Tech God a bit too seriously. When I hit 1000 posts, I sure as hell didn't feel any smarter. Is there some type of reward system for it I don't know about? If so, Scott, I'm still waiting for my "Tech God Prize" to come in the mail. Personally, if Scott wants to reset my post count and hack my title to be "The Biggest Idiot on Windrivers", I don't care.

All I'm saying is that Scott created the lounge for those of us who want to post off-topic BS and just shoot the breeze with each other. If you don't like it, just IGNORE the Tech Lounge! Is there a rule that you have to check out each and every forum when you visit here? If so, I'm in big trouble, because I've never once bothered to look at the Novell or Programming forums. The subject matter doesn't interest me, so I stay away. Hmmmm.....

JvaGuy, as a friend and fellow Windrivers member, I appreciate all the hard work you do, with people's avatars, the friends page (even though you don't do it any more ) and your jokes have at least put a smile on my face on an otherwise dismal day.

Once again, if you don't like the fact that people are racking up high post totals in the Tech Lounge - intentionally or not - ignore it. It's not your business where I post or what I post, or how much of it I post. If I'm out of line, Scott or the mods will say so. It's not your duty to be the Windrivers Post Count Police (this is directed at no one in particular, but quite a few people who have been taking their shots at those of us that hang out in the Tech Lounge most of the day).

I hope to god this is the last time I have to reply to this thread.

I don't care where anyone posts, but anyone at all can come in and post tech lounge and become a tech god without knowing anything (and this does not mean I am talking about anyone here, just saying it can happen). How are members supposed to know then who's answers are reliable or not, or who may be able to help them? what would be the point of even having this system if it isn't for that reason? Is it just for pretty stars and a power title? This thread is the first time I ever mentioned it so why jump on me so hard? I would not even have looked except I was being preached at about how we should all only care about helping people.
and like I care about post counts in general, thats why I have like 405? I just think it would be misleading.

Just ignore the status....it's there for FUN only.....if the information looks helpful, give it a try.......I mean after all, it's free suggestions......it's not like you're paying for it to be a guranteed solutions!!....if that's what you need....I suggest getting a service contract somewhere!!!!!!

I never said it was directed at you, and I even clarified that.

Maybe the easier solution would just be for Scott to drop the whole "Tech Master/God/etc." thing, since some people want to take it so seriously.

I can only speak for myself - as I've said, I post mostly in the lounge, and I ONLY offer help in the other forums when it's something I know about. And I have yet to see anyone who came in here, posted a bunch of bullocks in the Tech Lounge, then went to the support forums so his or her posts would look more meaningful.

im refering to anybody who has a bad label or any label for that nmetter .. mainly im refering to how mad tennisman got about people jumping on him and this an that but this does apply to anybody including myself no one gave us this label we (ourselfs) did it ..

if you want to be a part of the fun join in .. if you dont like the topic or like the help then you dont have to join .. but dont bitch cause you dont like current #1 windrivers topic or group .. i could care less if i was the most hated or liked .. i have fun when im here and learn new stuff every day .. hell i added a second fan onto my processor today from a tip i learned in the chatroom ... and as far as im concerned .. if people dont sit and watch and learn who people are .. its like people think tech666 is this and that .. but you know what .. if you take his advice itll work, you want help and get it solved .. itll work .. he tells it like it is .. and if people dont like it .. dont listen ... we are all here to stay and be strong .. again JeanneD this isnt directed toward you its anybody and myself .. but since you want a status .. ever think JeanneD .. you have one your the second longest active member .. who cares if you have 10 posts or 5000 ... you have a member number that only darren has lower

If you don't care, why are you so hellbent on chainging things? The number of posts/stars has never mattered to me. No matter how much I posts, I'll never have a change in stars/rank! Do I lose sleep over it, no. If you are looking for reliable tech help, then the Tech Lounge is the wrong place to look. If you are looking for reliable help, then check the forums that deal with the topic. Read a dozen posts, and come up with a conclusion for yourself. This is a forum concept. People throw up ideas, and its up to you to decide which ones you want to try, and in what order.

My, My....
what hellbent and what change, cuz I don't back down? When I was new here, that's what they said the stars and rank were for, the purpose I stated. What exactly is the purpose then?
Why have a certain numbers for different things then, like the avatars? Just curious..
and I didn't know being polite and respectful to people was a change either.
My mistake, but then look at your response to the guy that stuck up for me. I guess the guys can't stand it cause I didn't just meekly bow to their opinions. I don't see a mass of people saying I am wrong just the same ones over and over. What have I said that was so wrong, anyway? Why do some resent so much (and so belligerently) that I think ridicule and nastyness should go away. I guess it's fine by you when they mocked me in here, and created another post for the same reason, I didn't see you stand up for me against them for that anyway even if you don't agree with my opinion.
Really I am surprised and disappointed.

Not sure I understand what's going on here.

Do you feel like I'm one of the people mocking you here JeanneD?

If you say yes, I apologize, that was never my intention. I promise you I will reread my posts and reconsider how to post this kind of information in the future. I am genuinely only around here to help people and amuse people, and if I'm not accomplishing either, then I've overstayed my welcome.

This is a serious question. I'm not trying to mock you here. Do you feel I have contributed to the problem?

That's because most people have common sense enough to leave this topic alone and not touch it with a 10 pole. Common sense which I admittedly lack. I've gotten a couple of PMs from people who agreed 100% with what I said back on page 8, but don't want to get into the middle of it by replying to this topic.

And were there titles and stars back when you joined? When I registered back in August 2000, the only titles available were "member" (0-30 posts), "senior member" (30+ posts) and "moderator", and it was like that until Scott upgraded the boards back in January of this year.....

it was still the same idea and are you sure, I could swear mine said advanced tech (maybe not stars can't remember)long before that, but it doesn't really matter, the point is why have tech levels if it doesn't even matter about skill or knowledge, member would have been better then. What is the whole point?

Then you need to ask Scott about that on a one on one level. He's the one that adds the UBB hacks and titles, not me.

my question is where does .. one of us high posters say we are the best tech and so and so .. i know i lack the common sense to drop this but .. when i was mad here the old get over it phrase was told to me ..

#1 Ive never seen one tech god, mod state they are the worlds best tech or close to it
#2 Any tech who claims to be the best is a failure .. a true tech will learn from anybody each and everyday .. even from someone who has never used a computer theres things to learn.
#3 Our clique is friends .. anyone can join and anyone can be togther .. sometimes we carry thoughts form other threads .. or personal chats .. whihc are inside jokes .. bvut you know .. thats ok werwe all having fun
#4 Why would anyone want to be in a group im part of ... if reasons 1-3 are nothing .. this one will for sure do it ... so then this topic is closed .. where ever i am .. avoid cause im the man who does lesser tech stuff
