New York City is in the state of New York. I don't know a telephone service provider.

    Why are you asking?

I would like to contact with friends using free internet message service, and need to know, who is the local mobile phone service provider.
    Could it be Omnipoint (718)?

the mobile phone providers there (that I know of) are:
Verizon, Sprint PCS, Cingular, America One, MCI/Worldcom, AT&T, Excel communications, and a few others I think.

They no longer exist... I think they were swallowed up by Cingular?
