Unhappy I got a strange phone call today

when i came home i got a strange phone call, i didnt answer the phone because i called off work today and told my mom to answere it incase it was the job...heheeheh

but anyways she took the message and told me its a loan company calling about some furniture i got.
so i was like ,WTF???

i only had two credit cards my whole life both of them where maxed out and im on a payment plan to pay them back, one credit card is payed off completely the other is still getting payed off but nobody can buy anything with it.

i also got a credit checking card, but it extracts everything from my checking account and i keep an eye on that account and all the purchases i made on it where things i got, so everything looks fine there.

well when i called them back to see what the hell they wanted, they say they are a loan company for people that get loans or buy furniture. so i told them if they can pull up my info and tell me whats it about and they said " sure just give me your SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER" and i'll pull it up. and i was said no, and they guy said he can only pull it up with a social or a account number, i told them they just called me five minutes ago and the guy said he cant pull it up with a phone number.
all other call centers you can pull up peoples info with just a PHONE NUMBER.

so the guy says to give him the name they asked for and the phone they called and they will get back to me.

my mom said it was a lady called olga asking for me. so i call back asking for olga and tell her whats going on and she is asking for my social too. and she says she cant pull up anything with a name or phone number, so i ask to speak to a supervisor the supervisor is a prick and he is telling me if i got a credit card or furniture and i said no and he was suprised when i said that. eu also kept saying he cant do anything without a social security number or an account number. he says there is no way to pull it up with phone number or name just social and account. so i ask him doesnt he have a data base where all the numbers and peoples info are stored and he said no, then i said "so you have everything on paper then? and he said the numbers just pop on the screen. then i said so you do have a data base. he didnt say anything after that he just replied again he needs a social or account, then he said to give him my phone number that they called for they can see if they can pull something up with it and they said they will call me back.

i worked in a call center when i was a telemarketor the customers name would pop up on the screen then when we where done the next customers name would pop up, but we where stilll able to pull up customers account with a phone number also now i do help desk and we only need a phone number to pull up peopels accounts.

the company is called
Wells Fargo Finacial
P.O box 398
des moines, Iowa
1-800-572-5879

heres there info incase somebody has an issue with them, so far this situation sounds fishy to me.

im going to get a copy of my credit report to check it out

As you've figured out, never ever give out your SSN. It doesn't take much for identity theft, although it sounds like the thieves wouldn't get much...

this is the site for Wells Fargo, which is a legitimate bank.
The people that called you might have been posing as this bank.

LOL, wells fargo is a bank! Whether the person that called you is from that bank or a criminal is niether here or there, but Wells Fargo is a bank, the used to be called First Fidelity.

Call them back and ask them if they use the FACS system ( I think they do), if so, they can (100% sure) use your name, or phone number. The super was prob just too stupid to know how to. A SSN is best to bring up an account though. Tell them to put an "!", then your phone number. Also they may have been trying to doa skiptrace on you or your neibor! Be careful.

Wells Fargo visits my site all the time. In fact someone from that site was there this morning (web stat log).

Spiff's right. Don't ever give out your SSN.
It looks like a BullSh*t story they're using to get your ssn; luckily you're smart enough to see that. Think of how many people they bamboozle into giving it up.

Try checking them out with the BBB

Forget the BBB, I would call the police!

The RCMP has a special department called http://www.phonebusters.com/ that deals with this kind of crap. I don't know if US law enforcement agencies have any similar hotlines/programs.

Wells Fargo is one of the largest employers in Iowa. I can't imagine they would need to scam people to get business.

I don't think anyone was implying that it was the Real Wells Fargo that was trying to scam him

That reminds me, I've got to go and 'remind' a few people they should have paid for their Christmas PC's nine days ago later today.
