Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy Java-based Game Online
Ah, the memories of nights spent typing into a black screen, trying to wade my way through Infocom's Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy...
You can now relive the adventure with this <a href="http://www.douglasadams.com/creations/infocomjava.html" target="_blank">online version</a>!
OK - adventure may be a strong word here, but I'm sure there's newbies out there who have never even heard of this, so that may be considered "socio-historical study of text-parsing games of the early 1980's".
In any case, enjoy!

I just started reading it. It's good but doesn't appear to be any cohesive story.

The last part is pretty good though. About the game - you cannot save your position in the online version but an emulator version will allow it.

Great Find! I never actually played this one, but I absolutely loved the Zork series.
