    heh, if a computer boots with 2+ sticks of ram...and you pull one out, WHILE its on...what happens?....

    anyone ever tried it?

    Will an os like win2k re-allocate the ram?

    There's a big chance you'd get electrocuted while you were removing it and/or screw up the system <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

    Seriously, some apps would probably crash, maybe the OS itself depending on what sticks you remove. Or maybe the whole system would go down.

    That'd be funny to pull BOTH of them out..LOLOL

    yea, the arc from the power could be an issue...but...hehe, it would be pretty freakin cool <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

    doubt if it would electrocute you cos memory only runs at about 3v It would normally crash the system. Much older pcs probably could take it but newer ones know how much ram they have in them.
    Also if your system is running with 64mb compared to 1gb you have a higher chance of both sticks being used - specialy with nt4 or 2000.

    i have a old pentuim 200 sitting in a closet at home, if each formum member sends me a dollar ill video tape it and put it on the net =-), and personalize it to you guys =-)

    btw here are the list of things i have found to be hotswapable

    1. floppy drives

    2. you can take a cdrom out if you disconnect power first, just cant plug it back in without rebootuing the system

    3. never tried a hard drive on my units, but i figure i have to reboot to get the bois to detect it any ways

    4 cpu is a not, screen just goes black

    5 a friend of mine unplugged his video card once will it was on, he lost video plugged it in then rebooted and got video back

    6 cmos batts are hot swappable

    never tried ram
