I've always loved the acoustic guitar in Electric Light Orchestra's "Fire on High"...

Another vote for Dickey Betts and his flat guitar from the Allman Brothers single "Jessica" (great stuff).

I would also like to add a gentleman who gets lost in the era of Rock n Roll. Though I'm not a fan of Country Music, Roy Clark from Hee Haw fame can flat out tame an axe. He had a single back in the 70's called "Under The Double Eagle" that will make you dizzy.
I only post using 100% recycled electrons!!!

Stay on the bomb run, boys. I'm going to get them doors open if it hair lips everybody on Bear Creek.

I believe the opening line of the rolling stone's review of Matthew Sweet's Altered Beast was "The guitars are out of control"

The guitar work on this album is only surpassed by it's overall darkness. If you haven't ever checked it out, you should. It might take a couple of listens (as most exceptional albums do) because it's not as "upfront" as Girlfriend (which also had some excellent guitar work.)but it's equally as captivating once your drawn into it's world. One of my all time favorites.

    Thank you!
As a matter of fact, this is the kind of music I like most, so there are lots of songs I love.

Bruce Dickinson - Tears Of A Dragon (great solo too)
Dire Straits - On Every Street
Dire Straits - Brothers In Arms (not a solo, but I love this one).

    1. Jimi Hendrix
    2. Lyndsey (sp?) Buckingham (70's-80's Fleetwood Mac lead guitarist).
    3. Lotsa nominations, but I'll say Slash from Gun's and Roses

Favorite piece of guitar works got to be Lyndsey Buckingham's solo acoustic version of Big Love from Fleetwood Mac's 1995 'The Dance' concert - truely amazing.

Either that or Sweet Child of Mine by Roses, because I can play the opening
I'm in charge and I say we blow it up

Another one just came to mind.

Gary Moore - Parisienne Walkways (Excellent solo. Sorry about any possible spelling mistake. I'm not sure about the word Parisienne ).

    Cool

Pink Floyd - Comfortable Numb (Especially the live version from the "Pulse" tour where the music was timed to the moon opening...)

everything else just pales by comparison.
