i have a crappy dial up, a 56 modem yeilds 288 conection speeds , i have like one box that does a 56 hookup, it has 2 usr modems in it a winmodem and a 56kinternal fax voice, sharing the same com port for some reason that modem in a different machine you get the 288, and the winmodem the same
the phone lines here are shot, verison knows it but because there are like 30 houses on the block they wont do annything, we have an analog line from the 50's still in use that goes 200 yards and gets switched over to fiber optic,the techs that have to work this block say they draw straws to see who has to work here, the coal dust has gottin into the lines and caroaded them, so it takes like 4 or 5 tries to get a phone line to actually function, so the techs make 5 trips till they get a customer happy, that 5 trips up the poles to scratch thier head and find one thats available and will work, till the wind blows or it rains, the only thing i can get is cable, they have dsl , but verison wont allow anny one to conect to em for isp, but thats how the cable company connects,they convert analog rf signals to fiber optic, digital digital signals, but yet they wont offer dsl, i would rather go sat and dsl, they can have thier cable, for a little while now we atleast get clear cable channels, i dread what i would get for a cable hookup, hardley worth it for me to find out,livin in the styx suck for serives, but less neighbors and more places to hide thier dead bodies is a good swap!
