Red face First time this has ever happened to me...

    No, not that!

I went out and bought McAfee's VirusScan 6 today. I opened the box when I got home (darn shrink wrap) and was surprised to find no CD in the box.

At first I thought it may have been a new method of distributing their prog through the Internet, but I was wrong.

There just wasn't any CD in the box - and I know the wrapper hadn't been tampered with.

Anyone else ever get "surprised" like that?

To be honest, I've never had a shrink-wrapped box not contain the CD. I wonder how you get your money back.

Adept: "I opened the box and there was no CD inside."

Salesperson: "So, the box is already opened?"

Adept: "Yes. I just told you I opened the box."

Salesperson: "I'm sorry sir. We have a strict policy regarding open software."

    Keep us posted.

I already called up the store and they said just to stop by tomorrow to get it exchanged.

    I'm impressed!

At the store at which I work, it is not uncommon to get hardware boxes from the factory with missing CDs. Sometimes the CD is not there, sometimes the envelope is there (sealed) but the CD is not. Occasionally, we get the wrong CD or the wrong instructions, usually for a similar ( but incompatible) piece of hardware.

Weirdest of all was several years back. A jumper on a piece of hardware, either a modem or a soundcard, shipped without the tiny metal contacts inside. It was an "empty" jumper, but of course it would not short the two pins together. It took us most of the day to figure out that problem, since it looked perfectly normal.

Closest thing I can relate to, is I bought a bag of chips out of a vending machine once. Well it fell, it floated much like a leaf does to the ground. I picked up the (still sealed bag) only to discover it was empty...

Just once, same deal. New box of software, completely empty. First, and last time it ever happened.

I once had to work on a Dell that was shipped with the wrong restore cd.
Also had quite a few Compaqs that didn't have any restore cd, documentation, or mice

There for a while the 4910 shipped with the wrong recovery 5010. Everyone we recovered the store would ship it back saying "Recovery wont work" I had to call them up and tell them "Look at the number on the recovery, does it match the number of the machine?" Their reply would be "No".
"Then why are you trying it then??"

All you evil people with shrink wrap machines at home. Your conscience will catch up with you. LOL

It happened to me. My new Duke Nukem game had no cd in it. Had to drive all the way back across town. I was not a happy camper.
