    Resolved [RESOLVED] cdrom driver installation...help!!

Just installed a Creative Labs (model E2750UA)cdrom on a compaq deskpro 590, 24mb, win 3.1 system. Did not have the driver for the cdrom so downloaded and installed based on the readme.txt file with the driver. When booting up the system, installation is aborted because the computer says it cannot see the drive. I have checked to make sure the cd-rom is set as a slave and the hardrive is a master, edited the autoexec.bat file to make sure the Device=C:\... is the same as where the driver is located, and deleted and reinstalled the driver. What am I missing here???

The Creative Labs drivers are known to be buggy. I have hundreds of Creative Labs disk at the workshop which do not work.

Download the Universal Ide CD-Rom drivers from http://www.ace-computers.co.uk/drivers.htm you should have no problems then.

    Thanks Darren...no go

I downloaded a universal cdrom driver and installed it as suggested. I'm running Windows 3.1 and the cdrom is Creative. I'm getting message "No Drives found, aborting installation / No valid CDROM device drivers selected. I have the CDROM connected to the available IDE labeled CDROM on my PC. I bought a HiVal CDROM to install on another box and I'm getting the same message. Am I missing a step here...what else do I need to do?????? Both PC's are Compaq 590 DeskPro

make sure the cd-rom is on a seperate cable to the hard disk as this can cause problems with Compaq base units.
