Resolved [RESOLVED] E-IDE CD ReWritable drive problems

I have a Compaq Presario 5151 running Win. 98. I want to replace the IDE zip drive that it came with with a rewritable cd drive. I was told that I would have to uninstall the VIA bus master and let Win. 98 set the Win. default IDE controller to get it to work. I can not get much help from Memorex, and Compaq's suggestion was to take it to a service center. Please help.

You will need to get the VIA install drivers from the VIA web site, and select setup and choose uninstall... and then go to your device manager and remove the VIA busmastering under hard drive controllers
Then reboot and when Win98 finds the new hardware, find the drivers on the win98 disc
and install it, I had to do that with my memorex cd-rw, and now it works fine....
