Cool I passed my motorcycle class today!

Well I did it! I decided a few weeks back after my roommate took the same class that I wanted to enroll in motorcycle class. I had never ridden or drove a motorcycle until I started riding this past Saturday. I took the written exam and passed. then today (Sunday) I had the skills test and I passed that. Just from the time I starting driving on Saturday until Sunday, I had improved and my instructors noticed it too. So after I passed the class, my roommate and I went looking for a bike ... I was looking at the Kawasaki Ninja 250R. I want to start off with a small bike, because I know I need more practise, then get a bigger bike. so planning on going to DMV tomorrow to get my endorsement. Anyone else have any motorcycle class stories or have an endorsement?

congrats on the license. be very careful for the other drivers they don't tend to see bikers.

Welcome to the world of motorcycling.
I'd recommend one thing before you do anything else. Watch the Keith Code video "A twist of the wrist"(or read the book). The video only takes about an hour to watch but you might not pick up much the first time around. It shows you how to practice, how to keep your eyes open for trouble and most of all... how to ride well.
If you have a bit of money spare I'd recommend the California Superbike school run by Keith Code. They have run a few courses in this country as well and it's all good stuff.

Going through the class I learned the only law for motorcyclists is eye protection. Their not required by law to wear helmets or gloves. I'm just shocked when I notice all the motorcyclists without a helmet. Now I know its hot here in Arizona, but its still not safe to ride without a helmet or other protection. What are the laws in other states, I'm very curious. I know when I ride, I'll be wearing all the proper protection.

Well, you got to at least have shorts on.

I ride mostly without a helmet.

I am pretty glad the law made me wear a helmet ... ever slide a motorbike under an 18 wheeler?

My jacket was ruined, the lid scratched to bits...

btw it was the truckers fault, he just didn't see me and pulled out into my path.

Bama laws mandate a full helmet... no skullcaps for all you harley enthusiasts. That's about the only special law. No cc restrictions like in Aussie. Minimun age to ride is 15.

Congrats, I just bought a V-Star 650 a few weeks ago. Unfortunately it's either been cold or rained/snowed since about three days after i got it. I've been riding for about a year, it's my first bike so I thought that a small cruiser was a good place to start great value for the $$$. As far as the class goes I am going to take it this summer. Now if I could just get Tacklebox to do the same...hehehe

    Congrats on the license!!!
Here in Canada, all the provinces have laws on motorbike helmets, but each province enforces them differently. Manitoba (where I am) is pretty lax even though it's required. A friend told me that when he and his buddies are riding to Ontario, they stop when they hit the border and put their helmets on (currently sitting in saddle bags) cause the OPP are VERY strict!
Personally, I can't understand why anyone would choose to ride at 60 kph or faster without one! You may not cause an accident yourself, but can you say the same for the 100+ year-old lady, who can barely see over the dash, coming your way in her car? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" />

That is good to pass the riding part the first time, I know several people who had to do it three and four times.

    Congrats!

If I were you I would purchase a used Honda F2 or F3. That way when you outgrow your 250 in a month you don't have to go and buy a bigger bike right away. I bought a Yamaha R6 last year and luv it.

No way I'd ever ride without full helmet.
I'd rather have bug splatter on the helmet than in the face & hair. I once had a Blackbird bounce off my lid at 110mph. Kinda knocked the head back a bit. The lid has had a couple of scrapes along the road as well. Better to wear the lid than be a cabbage in hospital.
