    Question Drivers for External CD-ROM

I have a Compaque Contura laptop and a no name external CD-ROM. I cannot get the laptop to recognize the CD-ROM. I believe I need to install a driver. Where can I get this information?

Is the computer that you have, "Compaque" or "Compaq"? Did the drive come installed with it or is it something that you purchased separately? If you are running Windows98, it should automatically identify any generic drive, EVEN if it is NOT labelled on the case, Windows98 will usually identify it. If it hasn't, you definitely have some "generic" drive and will need to identify it using a product number or something similar. Good luck.

I stand corrected, did the drive come as a package with your computer is what I meant to say.

Every piece of electronic hardware should have a FCC ID number (not the part that says FCC 68). Find that number and then start the driver search on this sites home page.

It should be able to tell you who makes the Drive.

Also look for any Alpha/numeric sequence it may be the model number.
