Tiny DVD Drive - Model number SR-8584-B
My friend has got a tiny PC and is having problems with his DVD drive. The damn thing was O.K till recently. Now it's vanished from the system. Tried re-installing drivers. Aparently they're O.K. I don't want to ponce around with it too much. They have a reputation of being volatile and I really don't want to screw it up even more!

I couldn't understand -
you had the drive installed - then it no longer appeared in device manager ?
or the BIOS didn't see it ?
no it's showing or not ?
what do you mean problems ?
According to the model I'm guessing it's a Panasonic (matsu****a) DVD driver.
most of those require a firmware update to work in UltraDMA mode..
so try to set it in the BIOS and windows to PIO mode 4 or contact your vendor Tech support to see if he can upgrade the firmware to support UDMA.
