UK is good too!
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

Yes,driving seems to be taken as a prerequisite by employers in many industries these days.
Seems experience, dedication and loyalty are`nt enough.

I see you didn't list Nrw Jersey. Thats good, there are not tech jobs here.

My vote was for New England..

With schools like MIT, Worchester Poly Tech, etc.. and large businesses like Raytheon, Semiconductors Intl. Co., etc..

Its not all PC related, but its electronics, I',m pretty sure that with the new missle defence system that the gov't is "working" on, they're giving a huge contract to Raytheon, they always do...

You really shouldn't put Dallas and Houston together. They are completely different markets and built up on completely different economies. Dallas is mostly banking and the northern end of the Telecom corridor(starting in Austin really). Houston has a much different economy based around shipping(the ship channel) and mostly oil. With the fall of Enron and several of the other oil companies here, mixed with shipping being down, added with the cutbacks of the airlines, Houston sucks. Of course, Dallas got hit with the collapse of many of the Telecom companies including Lucent. As a result, I personally know Houston is awful, but due to being out of Dallas for a year now, I have no idea how bad off they are.

That and the fact that the are only 300 miles apart!!!

Sure, those areas are great, but if you include rush hour traffic its about a 2-3 hour commute at least, and without you're looking at an hour and a half at least..

I used to work in Somerset (Franklin TWP) from brick, I'd have to leave at 6:45 to be there at 9am...

    It almost killed my car.

Actually I was gonna just put Texas in the poll but I wasnt sure how big El Paso, San Antonio, Austin, etc. were in the tech sector. So I narrowed it to Dallas/Houston.

I also agree Dallas is the higher tech of the two, but a programmer buddy of mine who used to live in Houston says that they are plenty of hidden tech jobs there if you just look hard enough. They tend to get smothered by the shipping and energy industries there.

Research Triangle Park in NC is a great place to work as a "computer man" as the people where I used to work down there called me.
