[RESOLVED] IDE 1 and IDE 2
I am working on a pallet full of Compaq 575e's. I am adding CD ROMs to them. When I use IDE 1 with the CD as the slave and Hard Drive as master it works - but then I will need to buy a bunch of ribbon cables. (I have boxes of single item ribbon cables)
BUT when I attach the CD ROM using IDE 2 it won't see the CD ROM whether it's master, slave, or CS. Any solutions?

Check your BIOS to enable IDE in SETUP -> STANDARD.

go to the compaq website and grab a setup (bios) disk if you dont already have it.
then find your way to the ide setup screen,
clk the advanced and enable the secondary port.
make sure you save the settings before rebooting. then you should be ok.
if you need a driver, try the mitsumi generic
(mtmcdai.sys)
i found that it works with 99% of the ide drives out there!

I enabled IDE after downloading the setup from Compaq. (Setup as a partition on the hard drive??? What were they thinking?) The machines are running great! Thanks for the help
