Disappearing CD drive
Has anyone any idea why my CD rom disappears from my system at irregular intervals?
I have a Creative Labs 24speed (Samsung) CD Rom on an AMD 233Mhz system, TX Pro mother board, with 64 MB ram and running under Win95 OSR 2.1. It is the primary slave as I don't need it to boot from. I can remove the CD from Device Manager, install new hardware and reboot and the drive is back, for a time , then away it goes again.

AMS,
First I would check the jumpers on the CD and the hard drive for Master / Slave settings. Next, run Autodetect HDD in BIOS. Then last but not least, install the IDE drivers from the Motherboard manufacturer. If it is a TX PRO II board from PCCHIPS, it is a SIS chipset. If you need the drivers goto www.pcchips.com.tw
Good Luck,
Charlie
