(JUST FROM THOSE TWO ARTICLES... AND I KNOW the old argument "Linux needs better hardware and software support and to be dumbed down so anyone can use it"...)

So freaking NASA is using Linux. I'd hardly call that moving into the mainstream. Microshaft still has the stranglehold, and Linux, like most "uprisings", needs to get all the revolutionaries together instead of 100 different factions to legitimize itself.
Don't get me wrong, I love the underdog, but it has a long way to go yet...

In regards to the Linux article, it is just showing that Linux is making a rise, maybe not a huge one but it is on the rise.
All the articles I have seen regarding XP it looks more and more like M$ is standing up on a podium with Bill Gates unit pulled out and just pi$$ing all over other companies... (big example is a Kodak article I read a few weeks ago).
And I also said that to leave out the argument of Linux lacking the hardware support and having a long way to go. That is #1) something that is a known fact #2) and as the newer versions come out it is becoming lesser of an issue.

Didn't the Department of Defense just sign a contract to get about 25 000 licenses of StarOffice recently?
Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so. -Douglas Adams

Don't bet on it. Betcha it is a fully bought-and-paid-for version, and they likely paid double the CompUSA price. Hell, free stuff does not even have a place in the gov't.

Now Taz, I never even mentioned hardware support. And what I said holds true - until all the factions get together, Linux will remain in the realm of us tweakers.

I did not recall your post on XP, and I see now that it was the main thrust of your comment. Sorry, dude!

Actually there was no posting that I put up about XP. I should have retitled the posting. I predicted the XP thing in the chatroom after an infamous "Tazdrummer/Kedrin Linux/M$" debate.
