    Question Internet usage BS

Just found out that they are monitoring the "clicks" that we use here at work. They have a report that updates every week show all the sites you visit and the amount of times you have hit it. I was just wondering if there was a way to disguise the sites you visited ( ie non-work related sites )? In Hotmail if you have a link in an email it will open in a seperate window, but with a hotmail banner on top, and the url is a hotmail generated url. Would this disguise my internet usage? Just curious. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks cc_penguin for the link, now I have another question... is there a site that will encrypt the url or randomly create a url so that you don't get 500 hits on www.safeweb.com? Say if I wanted to read www.userfriendly.org and I didn't want "the man" to know I read the site, is there a tool or a site that will create a random url that would still get you where you are going?

This is perfectly legit. Yeah, I know, everybody surfs at work. This is going to become more and more prevalent as companies become more tech savvy. When you are fu**ing off, be it on the net or at the proverbial water cooler, you are essentially stealing. While I may not agree with this view, it is how the law views it. It is not worth the trouble. I suggest getting another job, or get a broadband connection at home.

safeweb.com probably won't be available for you for very long before they catch you using it. See what happens if you install netscape navigator instead of what i am assuming that you have which is windows ie.

First of all thanks to everyone for their help.

I do have a broadband connection at home ( Cable modem ) and I do most of my surfing on there. The company I work for is a Fortune 500 Pharmaceutical company and the already implement software to block objectionable sites ( porn, warez, real media, etc. ). I have no problems with any of this, I believe that if they did not block "objectionable" websites that they would be liable for a lawsuit... and they basically protecting themselves. What I DO object to is their "monitoring" the sites I visit. This is what they say about the report they run:
"This report indicates the aggregate Internet usage as well as individual Internet Web sites accessed by such employees. The report is produced on a weekly basis and reflects an aggregate year-to-date total for all activity. This also will include monthly totals, as well as provide a total for the current month. "
I do not like the fact that they give managers access to the reports of all the employees under them. My current supervisior is not the type to make a fuss about my internet usage as long as I complete the work allocated to me, but HER supervisor is very big on tracking our time and knowing what we are doing at all times. I feel that as long as I complete the work assigned to me on time and professionally, that there should be no need for anyone ( company, government, etc. ) to monitor what I use the internet for. Anyways, just venting a little... thanks again to everyone for their advice and views. If anyone has any other information they would like to share, please feel free to do so.

    Wink

Not concerned with the porn part... like I stated above, that's already blocked. What I was looking for was a site that generated a random encrypted url or some such so that it dosen't seem that I spend all my time on this site. <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">
