You should be able to run it from teh Command Interpreter but it won't be able to fully repair any errors until it reboots. You can do the same thing by R-Clicking the Drive letter you want to run CHKDSK on and selecting Properties - tools - check for errors and check the auto repair box. It will throw up an error stating it cannot repair at present and ask you if you wish to run CHKDSK on restart.

Or you can boot off of he XP CD and run the repair console and run CHKDSK /R from the console prompt.

Because it isn't there..... Defrag is, but an this Pro installation of XP here, Scandisk is not installed under System Tools, and only under the way I mentioned above.

Thanks Darrin. I didn't notice it was still there under the dirve properties-tools. I saw it was missing from system tools and went into Help and Support and it talked only about the command line chkdsk.

    Question

I'm not sure if anyone else has encountered this problem in XP Pro:

[quote]I've installed Diskeeper 7.0, and when I try to defrag, DK tells me that there are inconsistincies on my disks and that I must run chkdsk before I can degfrag. So, every time I have to defrag, I gotta go to the DOS prompt, run chkdsk /f c:, and then reboot. After this, DK runs fine.

I've had several people come to me with this problem.

    Thanks!
