    Post atapi drivers

    hey folks,
I've got win95, pentium (barely). Want to put on win95 without all the restore disk crap from AST.
Perhaps you can answer this. If I don't use the restore disk from AST, but simply boot to my windows startup disc, How do I make sure I can get the cdrom player to work? I've got the drivers for the cd player do I just put them on the boot disk? Also someone told me to not even do it this way because i have the Win 95 companion disk. What do you think
    thanx

After you fdisk, format, and copy system files on your hard drive, you can use a universal cdrom driver from this site.
Then load your Windows, but you will need the restore disk after you load Windows, so you can locate sound card, modem, multimedia keyboard, etc. drivers, you might need.
An obstacle is something you see when you take your eyes off your goal.

And don't forget to copy mscdex.exe to a floppy disk before you format. You'll need this file to make your CD drive work in DOS.

BTW, here's a link to the universal driver that Eagle mentioned:

    to Guarantee CDROM Operation (everytime)
make certain you have these statements on your startup discette!

    in Autoexec.bat
    A:\MSCDEX.EXE /D:MYCDROM
(also verify MSCDEX.EXE is on your discette)

    in Config.sys
    DEVICE=A:\UNIVERSAL.SYS /D:MYCDROM
(where UNIVERSAL.SYS is that universal cdrom driver mentioned in earlier posts ...
and verify that too it is on discette)
(or UNIVERSAL.SYS can be the cdrom driver that came with your cdrom... in a pinch it can be any new ATAPI/IDE cdrom driver most may work but I haven't tried that too much!)

(the name MYCDROM can be any name as long as they match!)

once you get it to work (of course)
    make copies!

    good luck

    ca
