Task bar alerts
Just installed Windows XP. I'm having problems with the task bar popping up from auto-hide to tell me updates are made to programs I'm running. Examples being downloaded files and instant messanger. I don't have a huge problem with the icon blinking once or twice to alert me, like previous versions of windows did. I do have a problem with the task bar not dropping into auto hide unless I acknowledge and bring up the "blinking" application icon. Is there a way of getting rid of this feature without completely going back to the Win98 interface?
Hope this made sense, thanks for any help given.

Get TweakUI, it has a feature to control this behaviour, although I don't know to the extent that you want. Worth a try, though.
