strange xp problem on startup
Greetings all,
When i start up this XP machine, it gives this window:
Windows has recovered from a serious error"
blah blah send a report blah blah...
The following files are involved with this:
c:\windows\minidump\mini060502-05.dmp
c:\docume~1\terryb~1\locals~1\temp\wer20.tmp.dir00 \sysdata.xml
What does this mean? It does this everytime.
The original problem was this:
The machine would boot up fine. The norton anti-virus registration screen would come up (they have not registered the NAV yet) then the machine would shut down. So, I did a system restore for as far back in time as it would let me. It will boot now, but does the above every time.
Thanks,
Al

I would check for a virus.A search for WER20 takes a person to a porn site, it is possible that they picked up a virus or Trojan if in fact they had gone to that site and clicked on anything.

Go here for info from the microsoft Knowledge base, as well as the link to download the fix.
OR-- use the windows update feature built into Windows XP and apply all critical updates... will fix the problem.

I would also go do a System File Checker and a Scandisk. If you don't know how to do a System File Checker, click on Start>Run>SFC /Scannow
Make sure your XP disk is in the cd drive when you do this by the way. Good luck!

Also, don't forget to Run an online virus scan if your definitions are out of date, which I cam pretty much guarantee they are. And GET THOSE definitions updated!
Run <a href="http://security.norton.com/default.asp?langid=us&venid=sym" target="_blank">Symantec's Online Virus Scan HERE</a>
